South Korea declares \'global AI hub\' vision with nine international organisations
South Korea announced a \'Global AI Hub\' vision with nine major international organisations and released a joint statement on May 21. Baek Kyung-hoon discusses digital cooperation with ITU secretary-general
Baek Kyung-hoon (배경훈), deputy prime minister and science and ICT minister, met International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin in Seoul on May 21 and discussed ways to expand Korea-ITU digital cooperation. The two sides agreed that expanding universal connectivity, narrowing the digital divide and using AI safely and inclusively are key global tasks. They also agreed to strengthen cooperation in AI and digital fields.

NIPA steps up national AI infrastructure expansion, adds 15,000 GPUs
South Korea\'s National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA) said it will accelerate the expansion of national AI infrastructure this year by rolling out 92 support projects worth 3 trillion won. Plans include securing an additional 15,000 advanced GPUs, supporting the launch of a special-purpose company for a national AI computing centre, and expanding an independent AI foundation model programme. NIPA also outlined projects for physical AI, open-source software and startups.
