Water-based battery that can handle 120,000 charge cycles raises prospects of replacing lithium-ion
A Chinese research team has developed a neutral-electrolyte aqueous battery with a lifespan said to be 10 times longer than existing products. The battery could withstand about 120,000 charge-discharge cycles, suggesting it could last about 300 years in grid storage if operated at the average 2024 rate of 1.1 cycles per day. The design combines a near-neutral magnesium- and calcium-salt electrolyte with a covalent organic polymer anode to reduce degradation and environmental concerns.

Hecto Healthcare warns of vitamin D shortfalls for children during school break
Hecto Healthcare CEO Kim Seok-jin said on Jan. 23 that children in growth stages may need nutritional balance reinforced in winter, when outdoor activity declines, time indoors rises and eating habits can become irregular. Experts said reduced sunlight can limit vitamin D synthesis, affecting calcium absorption and bone formation. They advised managing children’s diets carefully, including fish dishes that provide vitamin D and omega-3. Supplements may also be considered depending on circumstances.
