Great Sky develops optoelectronic network-based chip, claims GPU replacement
Interest and investment are rising in new semiconductor technologies that could replace GPUs as the costs and power consumption of building AI data centres grow. Great Sky, a startup chipmaker, has unveiled a superconducting optoelectronic network (SOEN)-based chip that uses light rather than electrons to transmit data. The company says the chip processes images more than 1 million times faster than standard GPU-based models and uses less power.
