BitMine to stop buying ethereum on reaching 5 percent of supply

Tom Lee (Tom Lee), chairman of BitMine Immersion Technologies, will stop accumulating ethereum once the company’s holdings reach 5 percent of total supply, crypto outlet U.Today reported on Oct. 8. Lee set the 5 percent threshold as a “hard cap” at the Token2049 event. BitMine holds more than 6 million ETH, about 4.9 percent of supply, and would need to buy about 100,000 more ETH to hit the cap.

Bitmine buys ethereum for 15th straight month, holds 4.9% of total supply

Bitmine Immersion Technologies bought an additional 15,112 ether, taking its total holdings to 6,016,414. The company’s stake equals about 4.9% of ethereum’s total supply of 122.1 million, putting it at 99% of its “Alchemy of 5%” target. The purchase was worth about $41 million. Bitmine said it has bought ethereum weekly since starting its financial strategy on June 30, 2025, and is staking most of its holdings through its MAVAN platform.

Bitmine buys 53,501 more ether, holds 4.9% of circulating supply

Bitmine bought an additional 53,501 ether last week, taking its stake to 4.9% of circulating supply. The purchase lifted its total holdings to more than 5.9 million ether, valued at about $14.8 billion using an Aug. 31 ether price of $2,511. DropsTab data put its unrealised loss on ether holdings at about $5.1 billion. BMNR shares rose 1.3% intraday on Aug. 31 to $24.09.
