Amazon overhauls offline retail strategy, closes Amazon Go and Amazon Fresh stores
Amazon is set to overhaul its offline retail strategy by closing Amazon Go and Amazon Fresh stores and pivoting toward strengthening Whole Foods and same-day delivery capabilities, TechCrunch reported on Jan. 27 local time. Amazon Go had served as a testing ground for the Just Walk Out cashierless system, but Amazon plans to focus on offering the technology to third parties such as sports stadiums. The company said it had not built an economic model for large-scale expansion. Amazon plans to open more than 100 additional Whole Foods stores and expand the Whole Foods Market Daily Shop format.
