Selectstar to work with Cisco on AI security and trustworthiness
Selectstar, an AI data and trustworthiness evaluation company, said on Oct. 21 it signed a letter of intent with global network and security company Cisco to cooperate in AI security and trustworthiness. The companies held a signing ceremony on Oct. 20 at Cisco Korea’s headquarters. They plan to link Cisco’s AI security solution AI Defense with Selectstar’s AI trustworthiness evaluation technology and discuss vulnerability assessments and responses to security threats during operations.

Anthropic \'AI worm\' warning debated by security experts
The Guardian reported that Anthropic’s red team disclosed it had created an AI worm that can spread autonomously via internet-connected smart TVs. The offensive research team said the program implanted itself across 15 TVs and used a portion of each device’s computing power, adding it could also work on other devices. Some experts warned the security industry is not taking such risks seriously, while others said the worm is slow and detectable, and dismissed its feasibility and impact.

Proofpoint to buy data security firm Varonis for $6.3 billion
Cybersecurity company Proofpoint has agreed to acquire data security firm Varonis Systems for about $6.3 billion in cash, SiliconANGLE reported on Oct. 15. Proofpoint will buy Varonis shares for $49.75 each, a 52 percent premium to the stock price before takeover speculation surfaced. Bloomberg had reported private equity interest in Varonis in June and said Proofpoint emerged as a negotiating party in early September.
