Micron drops next-generation 4F2 DRAM technology after 20 years of research
Micron has decided not to adopt its next-generation 4F2 DRAM structure in products after about 20 years of research. An online outlet, Gigazine, reported the company will instead focus on advancing 6F2-based DRAM, citing greater process complexity, higher costs and scaling limits. Scott DeBoer (스콧 데보어), Micron’s president and chief technology and product officer, outlined the shift and said density gains depend more on capacitor design than transistor area.
