Mgame said in a filing on Thursday it posted second-quarter consolidated revenue of 21.26 billion won, operating profit of 2.44 billion won and net profit of 717 million won.

Revenue rose 6.4 percent from a year earlier, while operating profit and net profit fell 9.4 percent and 56.7 percent, respectively.

With the second-quarter results, first-half revenue totalled 45.5 billion won, operating profit was 5.6 billion won and net profit came to 5.2 billion won. Mgame recorded overseas revenue in regions including Greater China, North America and Europe, based on its PC massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPG) "Yulgang Online" and "Knight Online" in the first half.

It said the net profit decline was due to factors including the normalisation of corporate tax expenses following the expiration of deferred tax asset effects in the first quarter, and the reflection of valuation losses on financial assets it holds.

Mgame plans to release new titles in the second half. It began pre-registrations on Monday for the idle mobile game "GwiHon Kiugi", based on the intellectual property (IP) "GwiHon", and plans to launch it in South Korea in the second half. It also plans to reopen the PC MMORPG "Pungnimhwasan" in the second half.

Mgame also pursued a shareholder return policy. It completed the purchase of treasury shares worth a total of 4 billion won, buying 2 billion won each in May and June. Of that, 430,000 shares acquired in May were retired in July. It also paid its first-ever quarterly dividend since its founding on July 14, at 110 won per share, totalling 2 billion won.

Mgame CEO Lee Hyung-kwon (권이형) said, "We are continuing our revenue base on the back of the global performance of our PC MMORPGs." He added, "In the second half, we will pursue improved performance through new releases and proceed with our shareholder return policy."
