OpenAI has unveiled a new mode called Ultrafast that can increase GPT 5.6 Sol processing speed by up to 14 times.

TechCrunch reported on Aug. 13 that Ultrafast mode can generate up to 750 output tokens per second.

OpenAI said Ultrafast is designed to significantly raise task processing speed for its latest flagship model, GPT 5.6 Sol. The company said that securing real-time speed has often required choosing smaller or more specialized models, but Ultrafast increases the amount of useful work processed per second on GPT 5.6 Sol.

OpenAI cited incident response, customer service and support, financial market analysis and e-commerce as key areas of use for Ultrafast.

Ultrafast is currently available as a preview. It runs based on cooperation with chip company Cerebras and was initially opened only to a small number of customers. OpenAI said it plans to expand access as processing capacity increases.

Anthropic has also introduced a fast mode for Claude. OpenAI said this Ultrafast provides faster speeds than that.
