Shinsung E&G said on Monday it held a launch event for a new production line at its plant in Kimje, North Jeolla, and formalised a shift to mass production of high-output solar modules through line upgrades.

The start-up marks an execution stage of its solar business portfolio restructuring strategy announced in May. Shinsung E&G previously said it would fully overhaul its business structure with a focus on high output, high efficiency and low carbon. The company said the line upgrade is a qualitative transformation rather than a simple expansion of existing lines. It plans to respond pre-emptively to the government's carbon neutrality policy and roadmap for expanding renewable energy.

The Kimje plant is the only solar module manufacturing base in the North Jeolla region. In the Saemangeum area, it has won orders for an 80-MW onshore solar project, a 74-MW Sunshine Sharing project and a 300-MW region-led floating solar project. The new production line is expected to strengthen its ability to supply high-output modules needed for those projects.

The company is also pushing to expand the ReSCO model in its power generation business, positioning itself as a comprehensive renewable energy services company. After being officially listed as a ReSCO operator with the Korea Energy Agency in May, it is building a structure spanning from module manufacturing to power generation projects through this production line upgrade. A company official said, "We will continue to work closely with North Jeolla, Kimje City and the Saemangeum Development and Investment Agency and grow together with the region."
