LG Uplus said on Tuesday it has acquired Pago Networks, a specialist in managed detection and response (MDR) solutions. It plans to internalise Pago Networks' threat detection, analysis and response capabilities to upgrade its companywide security system and expand its security business for corporate customers.

MDR is a solution that monitors a company's security environment around the clock to detect, analyse and respond to cyber threats. It is characterised by specialists carrying out actual security event analysis and responses.

LG Uplus will use threat intelligence and response know-how accumulated during MDR operations to strengthen its internal detection, analysis and response system. It will also secure capabilities for proactive threat response based on security data.

Pago Networks provides MDR services to a range of industries including finance, manufacturing and IT based on its self-developed security operations platform, DeepACT. It has also expanded into seven Southeast Asian countries including Malaysia and the Philippines.

LG Uplus will build an integrated security system covering authentication, networks, monitoring and threat response based on the acquisition. It will combine MDR capabilities with its existing U+ Premium Security Monitoring, its AlphaKey integrated authentication service based on post-quantum cryptography (PQC), and its cloud-based security service U+SASE to support the full process from security deployment to operations and threat response.

The acquisition is LG Uplus' first merger and acquisition pursued to flesh out its security-focused growth strategy. LG Uplus CEO Beom-sik Hong (홍범식) has presented security, quality and safety as the company's three core fundamentals and has emphasised growth based on customer trust.

LG Uplus has previously presented "Assured Intelligence" at MWC25, and later unveiled a "Secure AI" strategy at MWC26 focused on strengthening security competitiveness across AI services, data and infrastructure.

Yong-hyun Kwon (권용현), executive vice president and head of LG Uplus' enterprise division, said the acquisition was a decision to provide more complete security services to corporate customers and take the company's security response capabilities up a notch. He said the company will continue investing in security and strengthening its capabilities to establish itself as a security partner customers can trust.
