Nexon Korea said on Thursday it donated 88 million won raised through its in-house giving programme, the Double U campaign, to Save the Children to cover treatment costs for children from low-income families with burn injuries.

Nexon Korea held a donation ceremony the previous day at Save the Children’s headquarters in Mapo district, Seoul. The funds will be used for initial surgeries and early intensive treatment for 18 pediatric burn patients who have difficulty receiving timely care.

The support project was decided through an employee vote. In a vote joined by 1,531 people in June, support for burn treatment for children from low-income families won 34.4 percent and was confirmed as the first-half project. The fund was raised through a matching-grant method, with the company adding the same amount on a 1-to-1 basis to employee donations. A total of 837 people donated, reaching the target amount of 40 million won in 4 days, and an additional 8 million won in proceeds from the company’s 30th anniversary documentary brought the total to 88,002,000 won.

The Double U campaign, launched in 2021, has run 8 rounds to date, with 2,428 cumulative participants excluding duplicates and cumulative donations of 580 million won. That is about half of all employees. Nexon Korea plans to run the second-half Double U campaign in December on the theme of support for caregiving for children hospitalised without guardians, which placed second in the vote.

Choi Yeon-jin (최연진), head of Nexon Korea’s social contribution team, said voluntary employee giving combined with company support is building an in-house culture of sharing that expands positive influence. She added the company will continue its efforts so it can come together and deliver hope to children who need help.

Kim Hee-kwon (김희권), head of Save the Children’s ESG business division, said burn treatment is a major financial burden for low-income families due to repeated surgeries and rehabilitation. He said the organisation will do its best so the donation helps children who need burn treatment return to a healthy daily life.
