LG Uplus will acquire 90 billion won worth of treasury shares and use them to boost shareholder value through measures such as cancellation. It will invest an additional 1.3 trillion won to build the Paju AI data center (DC).
LG Uplus said on July 29 it approved the acquisition of 90 billion won worth of treasury shares at a board meeting.
The share buyback is part of the "value-up plan" that LG Uplus announced in November 2024 as a corporate value enhancement plan. LG Uplus has continued share buybacks and cancellations since disclosing the value-up plan, which includes mid- to long-term financial targets and shareholder return policies.
LG Uplus cancelled about 100 billion won worth of treasury shares in August last year based on book value. In May this year, it cancelled all treasury shares worth about 80 billion won that it had additionally purchased since last year.
LG Uplus will pay an interim dividend of 270 won per share in 2026. That is about an 8 percent increase from the previous year's interim dividend. The record date for the interim dividend is Aug. 13, and the dividend is scheduled to be paid on Aug. 28.
LG Uplus on the day disclosed it would invest an additional about 1.3 trillion won to build the second phase of the Paju AI DC.
LG Uplus is building a 200 megawatt AI DC in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, which it said is the largest in the Seoul metropolitan area. The Paju AI DC will apply LG Electronics' liquid cooling solution, LG Energy Solution's high-performance uninterruptible power supply (UPS) batteries and LG Uplus' data center operation capabilities.
Computer Building 1, scheduled to be completed in June next year, has all occupancy contracts completed. LG Uplus plans to use the additional investment to build Computer Buildings 2 and 3, proceed with related facility investment and work on the design of Computer Building 4.
An LG Uplus official said, "We will continuously 추진 our shareholder return policies to raise shareholder value and trust, and we will also respond preemptively to expanding demand for AI infrastructure."
