The Korea AI Association said on July 24 it met Romanian Foreign Ministry State Secretary Clara Volintiru and Romania’s ambassador to South Korea, Cezar-Manole Armeanu, at the Romanian embassy to discuss ways to cooperate on artificial intelligence between the two countries.

At the meeting, the two sides discussed a staged talent development programme moving from AI literacy to qualifications to CAIO, or chief AI officer. They also discussed joint research on Romania’s market analysis, productivity and the cost of adopting AI, AI proof-of-concept projects involving Korean venture firms, and mutual event exchanges including participation in AI Expo Korea, Asia’s largest AI exhibition, and DefCamp 2026 in November in Bucharest, the largest cybersecurity event in Central and Eastern Europe.

The association plans to pursue memorandums of understanding with the Romanian Association of the Software and Services Industry (ANIS), the National Institute for Research and Development in Informatics (ICI) and major universities as a follow-up to the talks.

Kim Hyun-chul (김현철), president of the Korea AI Association, said Romania is a country that has world-class talent and infrastructure but lacks the final link of adopting AI on industrial sites. He said the association would help connect that link with an execution system for matching, qualifications and certification that it has validated in South Korea, and would build a bridge for companies in both countries to cross into each other’s markets.
