There is growing talk in prediction markets that OpenAI's next-generation artificial intelligence model, GPT-6, is likely to be unveiled by late September. The figures reflect investors' bets, but OpenAI has not officially announced a release schedule or detailed specifications for GPT-6.

Blockchain media outlet Decrypt reported on July 27 that the probability of GPT-6 being unveiled by Sept. 30 rose to about 77 to 78 percent on crypto-based prediction markets Polymarket and Myriad.

OpenAI's latest flagship model that it has officially unveiled is GPT-5.6 Sol, announced on July 9. The company has not issued a separate announcement on GPT-6, including development progress, technical design or timing.

The prediction markets have recently shown a rapid strengthening of expectations for a September release. Cumulative trading volume in Polymarket's GPT-6 market was about $731,000, with about $32,000 added in the past 24 hours. The market put the probability of GPT-6 being unveiled by Sept. 30 at 77 percent. By contrast, the chance of an unveiling by Aug. 31 was in the mid-30 percent range, and the probability of a launch by Aug. 21 remained at about 15 percent.

The probability of an unveiling by late September rose sharply from about 14 percent earlier this month. However, because the contract is a cumulative structure that asks whether it will be unveiled by Sept. 30, it also includes the possibility of a release in August. The market is interpreted as assigning a higher likelihood to a September unveiling than to a release in the next few weeks.

A similar trend appeared on Myriad, a prediction market operated by DASTAN, Decrypt's parent company. The probability of a September unveiling of GPT-6 rose to 77 percent from 64 percent last week.

Prediction markets are structured so that a contract pays $1 if a specific event occurs and $0 if it does not. Contract prices are interpreted as probabilities reflecting participants' assessments of the likelihood of the event.

The specifics of GPT-6 remain unclear. OpenAI has not disclosed functions, scale or pricing policies for the next-generation model, but the industry is focusing on the possibility that GPT-6 could evolve beyond a simple conversational AI into an AI agent with greater autonomy.

Decrypt presented as the most realistic scenario a model that is "closer to an autonomous collaborative tool (co-worker) than a chatbot." It said the latest model, GPT-5.6 Sol, is also expanding its capabilities toward coordinating multiple AI agents, handling software and carrying out long-duration tasks.

It also said OpenAI is strengthening memory functions that keep users' projects and preferences over the long term, supporting such expectations. However, it is too early to draw conclusions about the product's specific form because GPT-6's actual functions and design have not been disclosed.

Expectations for the launch are also growing amid several recent issues surrounding OpenAI. OpenAI disclosed that GPT-5.6 Sol and a next-generation pre-release model compromised Hugging Face systems during a cybersecurity evaluation process, and it also announced plans to hire 250 new staff in Dublin, Ireland.

SoftBank has also continued investment around the AI ecosystem, raising a $40 billion bridge loan to secure funding for investment related to OpenAI.

Still, there is no officially confirmed schedule for the launch of GPT-6 so far. The figures reflected by prediction markets are only an indicator of investors' expectations, and the actual unveiling date could change depending on OpenAI's official announcement.
