Mplus, which is moving to target the solid-state battery equipment market, has joined hands with a major U.S. company. Mplus, a secondary battery assembly equipment company, said on Monday it is pursuing joint development of assembly process equipment with a U.S. global solid-state battery company.

Mplus has been working since early this year to propose tailored solutions after focusing on process difficulties commonly faced by solid-state battery cell makers. The cooperation is the result of that effort, and joint testing and verification are under way for some equipment used in the assembly process at the request of the company.

Solid-state batteries have a different process structure from existing liquid electrolyte methods, making equipment makers' technological capabilities more important. The company cooperating with Mplus is known to be expanding related investment, including building a pilot line. Mplus plans to continue expanding cooperative ties with major battery manufacturers at home and abroad on the back of this partnership.

An Mplus official said, "Through this cooperation, we are focusing on expanding equipment supply references in the global solid-state battery market and on laying the groundwork that can lead to orders at the mass production stage in the future."
