Facebook will test a new interface that shows a full-screen video as soon as users open the app, starting later this year for some users.

The Verge reported on Thursday that the test is meant to respond to users moving to rival social platforms such as TikTok.

Some users will see a full-screen video the moment they launch the app.

Meta did not disclose specific examples of the new interface. The Verge reported that it selected initial rollout countries in markets with strong preference for video content and is considering expanding to the United States next year.

Meta said video is becoming a space where conversations, community-building and commerce take place. Meta does not separately disclose user numbers by platform, but based on its own data, total users across its services fell by 20 million in the first quarter of 2026.

Facebook is still cited as the world’s most popular social platform, but YouTube has closely followed and TikTok has also been gaining. TikTok surpassed 1 billion monthly users within 3 years of its launch. That was much faster than Facebook.
