[DigitalToday reporter Jin-ho Lee] LG Uplus will hold a customer-participation Shorts video contest with Google.

LG Uplus said on Tuesday it will hold the second Uth Shorts Festival, a customer-participation video contest.

The Uth Shorts Festival is a Shorts video contest run with YouTube around LG Uplus’ Generation Z-focused brand, Uth. The contest runs through July 31 and is open to anyone regardless of age or mobile carrier. About 3,000 people took part in the first festival held last year, submitting a total of 6,884 videos. About 77 percent of participants were in their teens and 20s.

The theme of the second contest is “expressing myself using AI.” Participants can choose between the Simply category, which involves making a video with generative artificial intelligence (AI) about their preferences, values and daily stories, and the Arts category, which uses AI-based voice and sound. They can enter both categories.

Customers who want to take part should upload a Shorts video made using generative AI to YouTube and submit it through the official website. The video must include the phrase “video produced with AI” and the required hashtags.

LG Uplus will also provide online and offline training and a production guide to help participants use generative AI easily. During the contest period, customers who request discount vouchers via the official email will receive a 10,000 won discount voucher for a package consisting of “Google AI Pro” and Domino’s Pizza discount coupons.

Submissions will be evaluated based on topic relevance, quality and view counts, among other factors. Eleven people, including the grand prize winner, will be offered a five-night, seven-day AI training opportunity that includes visits to the AI museum “Dataland” in Los Angeles and Google’s U.S. office in September.

The 11 winning works will be displayed at LG Uplus’ multi-purpose cultural space, “Il Sang Bi Il Sang Ui Teum by U+.” Six excellence prize winners and 10 encouragement prize winners will receive 400,000 won and 200,000 won, respectively. Grand prize, excellence prize and encouragement prize winners will receive a completion certificate jointly issued by LG Uplus and Google, called the “U+ X Google Certificate.” All participants will receive one Mega Coffee iced Americano coupon. Winners will be announced in August on the official Uth website.

Joon-young Jang (장준영), head of LG Uplus’ marketing group and a managing director, said the Uth Shorts Festival is a customer-participation programme in which Generation Z customers directly experience new technology and create their own content. He said the company will continue to support customers so they can use AI more easily and in a more familiar way as they grow.
