Shift Up said on Tuesday it has completed an acquisition after obtaining all shares in Japanese game developer Unbound Inc.
Unbound is a PC and console game development studio involving developers led by CEO Shinji Mikami (미카미 신지), who has experience developing games including the "Biohazard" series, "Devil May Cry", the "Psycho Break" series and "Okami". It is currently developing an original intellectual property for PC and console platforms targeting the global market.
Shift Up said the acquisition internalises development staff and has succeeded in expanding a new PC and console pipeline. It plans to directly handle publishing of Unbound's new titles and build global service capabilities.
Shift Up CEO Hyung-tae Kim (김형태) said, "We have come to be together with Unbound, where developers including CEO Shinji Mikami have gathered." He added, "This acquisition will be an opportunity to strengthen global development competitiveness."
Unbound CEO Shinji Mikami said, "I am glad to be together with Shift Up CEO Hyung-tae Kim and employees." He said, "I will do my best to make fun games through a partnership that lets us focus on creativity."
Shift Up also released a branding video about the acquisition through its official YouTube channel. The video includes Mikami's development philosophy and Kim's vision for collaboration.
