[DigitalToday reporter Jinju Hong] British bicycle lock specialist Hiplok has unveiled a new modular bicycle lock, the Switch 105. The new product follows the Z-LOK series, known for simple cable-style security products. It targets everyday riding and urban commuting, with a focus on improving both portability and security.
BikeRumor reported on Feb. 10 local time that the Switch 105’s biggest differentiator is its “modular carrying system”. It can be fixed to a bicycle frame using a bottle-cage mounting method. Depending on riding style, it can also be carried on the body by attaching it as a clip to a belt or bag strap. It can be mounted in multiple ways with the standard configuration without buying additional accessories. It is designed to address the inconvenience of existing products that rattle while riding or are cumbersome to store.
Locking performance has also been strengthened. The Switch 105 uses a folding structure that links 4 mm-thick hardened steel bars with steel rivets. It can extend to a maximum length of 105 cm, allowing it to be used with various anchor points such as utility poles, railings and bike racks. When not in use, it folds compactly for easier carrying. The product has received the independent security certification rating of Sold Secure Pedal Cycle Bronze, formally recognising its basic anti-theft performance. It weighs about 1.17 kg (2.6 pounds), and is assessed as balancing portability and durability.
The components are also designed for practicality. The package includes the folding lock body, a mounting bracket, a holster, a plate for bottle-cage mounting, and 3 replaceable coded keys. Each key is assigned a unique code, allowing users to order replacement keys with the same code if they are lost, reducing the burden of having to replace the entire lock. Basic installation hardware is also provided, and a lifetime warranty applies if the product is registered within 30 days of purchase.
The Switch 105 has a retail price of $129 (about 180,000 won) and will be released in 2 colours, black and grey. It is drawing attention as an option suited to users who combine commuting with weekend rides and urban riders who prioritise carrying convenience. Hiplok is expected to accelerate its push into the “everyday bicycle security solution” market by combining security and practicality with the new product.
