Naver Cloud said on Thursday it launched Cloud DB for Cache, a fully managed cloud database service based on open source software.
The company said Cloud DB for Cache is an in-memory cache database service based on open source Valkey, the first such service introduced by a domestic company.
Naver Cloud said the launch is meaningful because it offers a practical alternative as open source Redis changed its policy to a commercial licence that incurs additional costs when providing cloud services using Redis, increasing technical and cost uncertainty.
It added that the service offers high compatibility with existing Redis to minimise replacement costs, and provides high-performance, high-availability in-memory services at a reasonable price compared with Redis commercial licensing.
The service can also be used in domestic public cloud environments. Naver Cloud holds Cloud Security Assurance Program certification, including for Cloud DB for Cache, and has a database portfolio including RDBMS and NoSQL.
Seung-yong Jeong, Cloud DB platform leader at Naver Cloud, said, "We plan to continuously expand cloud services that domestic companies and public institutions can choose with confidence even in a rapidly changing open-source environment." He added, "We will expand our influence in the domestic cloud market by proactively presenting alternatives that can reduce uncertainties such as costs and regulations."
