The U.S. Defense Department is launching a "Tech Force" program to hire Silicon Valley talent directly to strengthen its technology capabilities, Business Insider reported on Jan. 23 local time.
The Pentagon aims to recruit engineers, data scientists and technology leaders to modernise its systems.
Emil Michael (에밀 마이클), the under secretary of defense for research and engineering, said on a recent podcast, "I will make serving the country with technology for 2 years a new honour." Annual pay is set at $130,000 to $195,000, and Silicon Valley figures will take part directly in selecting recruits.
The "Department of Government Efficiency" and Palantir's "Meritocracy Fellowship" are also developing new talent early in a similar way.
