The Korea Association of AI and Software Industry (KOSA) said on Jan. 19 it will open an AI Function Point Agent (FP Agent) service, developed in cooperation with SK AX, that automatically calculates function point (FP) measurements using AI technology.

The AI FP Agent is a function point estimation tool that analyzes a unit function list prepared by users based on an Excel form titled "Simplified method calculation form for SW development costs at the implementation stage of SW projects" provided by KOSA. It identifies function types and provides feedback so users can directly recheck ambiguous items.

KOSA developed the program after signing a business agreement with SK AX in September last year. In the first stage, it focused on recognizing unit process names and identifying function types based on a function list template. In the second stage, it plans to advance algorithms for identifying functional requirements and extracting unit processes by learning from SW development project request-for-proposal documents and task instruction documents.

KOSA plans to add a second verification by experts and a confirmation procedure by the operating body for SW project compensation, on top of results derived through the automation tool, to improve efficiency in cost calculation work. Through this, it plans to support ordering administration in the public sector and provide a practical service that allows member companies to give and receive proper payment.

KOSA Chairman Junhee Cho said the AI FP Agent is a solution that can resolve inadequate estimation and inefficiency, longstanding challenges in the public SW ordering system. He said the group will develop it into a service trusted by both public institutions and private companies through an expert verification process.
