The government will build a dedicated training centre from next year to foster the domestic AI industry and will 추진 pilot projects at post office sites.

The Ministry of Science and ICT on Oct. 29 discussed domestic physical AI policy directions and industry support measures with experts from industry, academia and research at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Seoul.

The ministry is working to strengthen domestic physical AI competitiveness as part of South Korea's three mega projects under the Korea Great Leap initiative. Since this year, it has been running projects to secure core technologies in-house, including world models and foundation models.

Next year, it will build a "Physical AI Training Center" so that it can produce and use high-quality physical AI data needed to advance core technologies. It will also work with Korea Post to run pilot projects to verify the applicability of physical AI technologies in real-world settings.

It aims to actively use government research and development results and products developed and produced by domestic companies to build a domestic physical AI full-stack system. It also plans to lay the foundation for the growth of related domestic companies along with securing core technologies.

On the day, experts in physical AI models and data, and in robotics, discussed ways to apply physical AI and AI robots, which are at an early stage. The ministry plans to continue communicating with a range of experts and to flesh out its policy direction.

A ministry official said, "To foster the domestic physical AI ecosystem from the ground up, it is important to localise the physical AI full stack, including semiconductors, models, data and robots." The official added, "We will continue to actively communicate with various experts in the field and work together to establish policy."
