SK Telecom said on Oct. 29 it provided emergency relief supplies and communications services to residents evacuated by a fire in Guryong Village in Seoul's Gangnam district, together with the Korean Red Cross.
About 200 residents evacuated after a fire broke out on the afternoon of Oct. 27. Displaced people are currently living at temporary shelters set up at Gaepo Middle School and Guryong Middle School. SKT installed a free smartphone charging booth and provided WiFi service at the Gaepo Middle School shelter. It also provided relief items such as hot packs and portable battery packs to help evacuees maintain stable living conditions.
SKT also operates a standing response system that provides relief supplies as well as communications services such as WiFi and IPTV to ensure rapid support when disasters occur.
Hong Seon-gi (홍선기), head of SKT's metropolitan network, said, "I extend my deepest condolences to residents affected by this fire," and added, "We will do our utmost to provide communications support so evacuees can smoothly access the information they need."
