[Digital Today reporter Hyun-woo Choo] Nikon Imaging Korea on Wednesday announced the NIKKOR Z 120-300mm f/2.8 TC VR S, a large-aperture telephoto zoom lens designed for sports photography.
The lens is a Z-mount model for full-frame mirrorless cameras and belongs to Nikon's top-end S-Line lineup. It maintains an F2.8 maximum aperture across the entire 120 mm to 300 mm zoom range. Nikon said it is the first in the world among interchangeable zoom lenses to integrate a 1.4x teleconverter into a fixed F2.8 zoom lens. It said this is based on Nikon's own research as of Oct. 29.
With the built-in teleconverter, the focal length extends up to 420 mm. The maximum aperture is then F4. The lens weighs about 2,735 grams, about 515 grams lighter than the AF-S NIKKOR 120-300mm f/2.8E FL ED SR VR released in 2020.
For autofocus, it uses Silky Swift VCM, which combines a guide mechanism and a voice coil motor. When used with a camera that supports Synchro VR, it delivers up to 6.5 stops of vibration reduction at both the center and edges of the frame. It has a magnesium alloy body and extensive sealing for dust- and drip-resistant performance.
Jeong Hae-hwan (정해환), head of Nikon Imaging Korea, said, "I hope it will be a dependable shooting partner for sports photographers looking to capture decisive moments without missing them in rapidly changing game situations." It will go on sale in November. The domestic launch price was not disclosed.
