Ecopro brought forward its executive reshuffle by two months compared with past years. Ecopro said on Oct. 1 it carried out promotions and appointments for presidents on Sept. 30. The company said the move is aimed at strengthening external cooperation and securing future growth drivers through business diversification. It said the timing was moved up so new chief executives can directly draw up next year’s business plans and improve execution.
Choi Sang-woon (최상운), head of Ecopro’s management support division, and Park Jong-hwan (박종환), chief executive of Ecopro EM, were each promoted to president. The two were also named CEO-designates of Ecopro and Ecopro HN. The company said Choi was recognized for overseeing key foundational operations and helping stabilize the organization and lay the groundwork for sustainable growth.
Park is a battery specialist who has focused on secondary battery cathode materials. The company said his promotion was based on his role in building a mass-production system by establishing a cathode materials plant. As the new CEO of Ecopro HN, he plans to focus on strengthening capabilities in semiconductor materials and competitiveness in manufacturing secondary battery materials.
There were also shifts in CEO posts among group companies. Song Ho-jun (송호준), CEO of Ecopro, was named CEO-designate of Ecopro BM. Ecopro BM plans, under Song’s leadership, to strengthen its role as an intermediate holding company overseeing secondary battery materials. It also plans to complete management systems for overseas subsidiaries in Hungary and Canada and to build future growth drivers through investment in the BNSI smelter in Indonesia.
Song will concurrently serve as CEO of Ecopro EM, an Ecopro BM unit, to boost synergy between the two companies. Choi and Kim Jang-woo (김장우), management CEO of Ecopro BM, will jointly serve as co-CEOs of Ecopro. Kim, the CEO-designate, oversees the group’s finance and management control. The designated new CEOs are expected to be formally appointed after procedures including board meetings and shareholders’ meetings at each company.
