The Ministry of Science and ICT’s Korea Post said on Wednesday it will issue commemorative stamps on Oct. 8 to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Korean linguist Ju Si-gyeong (주시경).

A total of 480,000 stamps will be issued. They feature a relief sculpture at Ju Si-gyeong Plaza near Gwanghwamun in Seoul and his 대표 book, “Sounds of Speech.”

Ju Si-gyeong Plaza is a space set up next to the site of his home. It includes sculptures such as a relief honoring his achievements and spirit. The design also places “Sounds of Speech” alongside it to capture the path of a lifetime devoted to the education and study of the Korean language.

Park In-hwan (박인환), head of Korea Post, said he hopes the commemorative stamps marking the 150th anniversary of Ju’s birth will prompt people to reflect on the value of the Korean language and Hangul and serve as an occasion to remember Ju’s 뜻 for a long time.

The commemorative stamps can be purchased at main post offices nationwide and through the internet post office.
