The Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) said on Sept. 29 it signed a multilateral business agreement at Bucheon City Hall to build an AI agent-based system for searching for missing people.

KISA will cooperate with Bucheon Urban Corporation, Bucheon City, three police stations in Bucheon (Bucheon Sosa Police Station, Bucheon Ojeong Police Station and Bucheon Wonmi Police Station), Chung-Ang University, Kudo Communication Co Ltd and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, among a total of 8 organisations.

KISA said it invited applications and selected projects in March with the Ministry of Science and ICT under a programme to support commercialisation of AI-based next-generation security products. It is developing and conducting demonstrations of an AI agent-based integrated platform for physical security to protect missing people with selected operators, a consortium of Kudo Communication, Chung-Ang University and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology.

The agreement is part of efforts to link the platform under development with Bucheon’s monitoring and control environment and build a field-use system that runs from detecting missing people to search and investigation.

Under the agreement, the organisations will cooperate on supporting commercialisation of the platform and creating a foundation for advancing data-based technologies (KISA), providing facilities needed for field demonstrations and supplying data to operate the platform and advance its technology (Bucheon City and Bucheon Urban Corporation), verifying and advancing the technology through platform development and demonstrations (Chung-Ang University, Kudo Communication and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology), and linking policing work such as searches for missing people using platform data (police stations in Bucheon).

Oh Jin-young (오진영), head of the AI Security Industry Division at KISA, said the case was meaningful as a first step in connecting a smart city into a single AI agent-based integrated monitoring system for physical security. Oh said KISA would continue to do its best to go beyond simple technology demonstrations and use advanced technologies to build a safe society people can feel and a technology industry ecosystem that can be trusted.
