Nexon has opened an escape room cafe in Hongdae that brings MapleStory’s signature locations and universe into a real-world space.

Nexon said on Sunday it officially opened "MapleStory Escape", created in collaboration with Idea Creative, in front of the main gate of Hongik University in Seoul’s Mapo district.

The venue reimagines major MapleStory areas as escape room content. On Sunday it first unveiled the thriller-themed "Kerning City" and the arcade-themed "Mu Lung Do Won".

It will then add "Haunted Mansion" on Sept. 28, "Edelstein" on Oct. 5 and "Ludibrium" on Oct. 12, operating a total of 5 themes.

Admission costs 29,000 won per person, and 2 to 6 people can enter per session. Regular reservations open every Monday at 10 a.m. through YES24.

On site, it sells dedicated merchandise including "acrylic dioramas" and "plush pouch keyrings". The official website allows visitors to check user records and rankings by theme.

It is also holding user events to mark the opening. Nexon will run advance ticket sales for MapleStory users through Sept. 27, and will give an acrylic stand to the team that sets the fastest daily record in "Kerning City" and "Mu Lung Do Won".

In the Hongdae area, it will also run a minigame event over the same period from noon to 9 p.m. using "Kerning City" non-player characters, or NPCs. Players who win after taking part in games including "Pick Monttangtta’s Lock", "How to Become Dark Lord’s Thief" and "Find Shumi’s Coin" can receive souvenirs.

From Oct. 9 to 11, it will hold a venue-rental event for MapleStory users called "Maple Escape Day". Creators Pangiyo, Seglja, Myeongyehunjang, Jingyeokcannon and Cheongmyo are expected to take part in on-site programmes.

It will also run an escape room match prediction event through Sept. 27. Participants pick the outcome of a matchup between the creator team Ira333 and Tayo and the team of Seo Chul-goo and Heo Seong-beom, with in-game rewards provided to participants and to those who predict correctly.
