TechCrunch reported on Thursday that AMI Labs, founded by Yann LeCun, and World Labs, led by Fei-Fei Li, are in the spotlight but have disclosed little about product plans or commercialization timelines.

World models are a technology that automates spatial intelligence and can be used across a wide range of fields such as robots, interactive video and complex autonomous driving systems. With so many potential applications, it is unclear which market they will target first, TechCrunch reported.

Michael Rabbat (마이클 래빗), a co-founder of AMI Labs and vice president in charge of world models, was reluctant to answer questions about what the company is developing. "We are still in the research and development stage, so we are not disclosing product plans or schedules," he said.

The lack of publicly available information can be seen across the industry. World Labs' Marvel is cited as the most concrete example in the field. World Labs demonstrated Marvel for media production, building exploration environments for games and computer graphics effects, and also suggested possible use in robots. For now, its focus appears to be more on demonstrating technical capabilities than specific business plans, TechCrunch reported.

Alex de Vigan (알렉스 드 비건), chief executive of world model data provider Physikl, said he knows his company's data was used in customers' development but does not know exactly what they are building. He added that if he knew more about their development direction, he could create more useful data.

Competitive pressure is cited as a reason world model companies are staying quiet. TechCrunch reported that if one company first reveals a concrete direction such as humanoid Openclo or a next-generation Hollywood rendering system, other world model companies and new research labs, as well as OpenAI and Anthropic, could quickly take an interest.
