OpenAI releases new GPT-5.6 prompt guide stressing clear results over long instructions
OpenAI released a new prompt guide for GPT-5.6, recommending concise instructions that clearly define desired outcomes, success criteria and stop conditions. It said tests of an internal coding agent showed evaluation scores improved by about 10 to 15 percent after shortening system prompts, while token use fell 41 to 66 percent and costs dropped 33 to 67 percent. The guide also warns that conflicting rules can cause instability and inefficiency.
