Science ministry to push professional training in post-quantum cryptography

South Korea will train 620 specialists to help shift existing cryptographic systems to post-quantum cryptography in preparation for the era of quantum computers. The Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Internet & Security Agency said the professional training programme will run from July to November. The programme includes development, transition and practical courses. The ministry said it is supporting the national transition under related government plans.

AWS aims to offer fault-tolerant quantum computer cloud service with QuEra Computing

Amazon Web Services said on Sunday it is expanding cooperation with neutral-atom quantum computing firm QuEra Computing and plans to offer the fault-tolerant quantum computer Libra via Amazon Braket by 2028. AWS said quantum computers face inherent limits because qubits are prone to errors from small environmental changes, and fault-tolerant computing uses error correction to overcome them. It said Libra is designed to run more than 1 million quantum operations on hundreds of logical qubits.

Academics spar over Microsoft Majorana 2 quantum chip claims

Academics have raised questions over core technology behind Microsoft’s Majorana 2 quantum chip. University of St Andrews physicist Henry Legg said Microsoft has not proven the existence of topological qubits, arguing that tuning procedures, code errors and missing data undermine the company’s claims. Microsoft rejected the criticism, saying it stands by its results and roadmap and that its work has undergone independent verification through a DARPA benchmarking initiative.
