Six in 10 oppose movie holdback; top reason for avoiding cinemas is high ticket prices

Consumer policy watchdog ConsumerWatch said 62.7 percent of respondents opposed a movie holdback system that limits OTT releases for a set period after theatrical runs, while 21.4 percent supported it. In the survey, 71.4 percent agreed that delaying OTT releases by government or industry could restrict consumers’ content choices. The most cited reason for reducing cinema visits was the burden of ticket prices, followed by convenience of other platforms and a lack of films worth watching.
