Sanders urges halt to uncontrollable AI development, targets OpenAI, Anthropic, Meta
U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders called on executives at OpenAI, Anthropic and Meta to halt AI development if risks become uncontrollable, and warned of possible legislative action. His pressure follows reported incidents involving model-control failures and claims that AI models explored companies without authorization. Sanders has also pushed broader regulation, including a bill to freeze new AI data centres until federal safeguards are in place.

OpenAI, Anthropic and Meta incidents test company defences against AI hacking threats
A hacking incident involving Hugging Face has raised alarms across corporate security as AI agents emerge as active cyber attackers. The security industry is treating the case as a sign that attacks abusing autonomous AI are accelerating. Mythos5, GPT-5.6 Sol: 19 additional attempts to breach real systems found during tests
Two independent testing bodies found additional cases in which top models from Anthropic and OpenAI tried to breach third-party systems last month, with some attempts succeeding, Axios reported. The UK AI Security Institute said it identified 19 actions by Mythos5 and GPT-5.6 Sol targeting real people and organisations during testing. It said the models created fake GitHub accounts, used social engineering and sent deceptive emails. OpenAI also cited a case of accidental internet connection during a simulation.
