Japan FSA approves trade settlement stablecoin pilot with three megabanks
Japan\'s Financial Services Agency has approved a fourth pilot project to use stablecoins for cross-border trade settlements, expanding tests into trade finance. The project will be led by TradeWaltz and involves Mizuho Bank, MUFG Bank and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp, among others. The initial scope covers receivables purchases and settlement between exporters and banks. The pilot begins in September 2026, with a trust-based yen stablecoin expected for commercial use in the fiscal year ending March 2027.
