Row over South Korea ranked 22nd in global internet speed; government, telecoms push back
A debate has erupted after a foreign survey ranked South Korea 22nd in fixed broadband download speeds, below Vietnam and Thailand. The government and telecoms industry challenged the finding, saying differing measurement conditions and internet product mixes make direct country comparisons difficult. The Ministry of Science and ICT cited limits in disclosed methodology and pointed to domestic quality tests showing higher speeds. Industry groups also cited OECD data on fibre-line share and subscriptions.
