FBI, power plants hit in worst hacking incidents of first half 2026
Cyberattacks in 2026 are spreading across national infrastructure, public data and global companies, prompting warnings that security threats are entering a new phase. TechCrunch said major incidents this year show simultaneous increases in personal data leaks, supply-chain hacks and attacks on critical infrastructure. Cases cited include alleged mishandling of U.S. Social Security data, attacks on European power and water facilities, disruptions at large firms, open-source supply-chain compromises and an intrusion into part of the FBI’s monitoring systems.
