Anthropic, OpenAI shift from model race to AI coding lock-in strategy
Samuel Colvin, CEO of AI development framework Pydantic, said Anthropic and OpenAI are shifting their AI coding strategies toward locking in customers rather than competing only on model quality. He said the pricing of Claude Code and Codex aims to capture market share quickly. Colvin said codebase lock-in could make ongoing use unavoidable and enable future price increases. He also expects services that store full coding chat trajectories.
