South Korea to launch tailored inspections by personal data risk level
South Korea will begin full-scale, tailored inspections of personal data handling from the second half of this year based on the level of privacy-infringement risk. The Personal Information Protection Commission presented a plan to shift to a prevention-focused personal data management system at a meeting of economy-related ministers on May 22. The government will classify sectors into high, medium and low risk groups and apply differentiated oversight. It will also institutionalise privacy-by-design principles and expand supply-chain controls and related technology research.
