Consumer AI faces profit test amid slow paid conversion and high operating costs
Meta and OpenAI are accelerating efforts to target the consumer AI market with personal AI assistants, but questions over profitability persist, according to a report. TechCrunch said high operating costs relative to demand are a core problem for consumer AI. Surveys show only a small share of consumers pay for AI services and spending has not risen clearly, even as models improve. High costs could make profits difficult even with hundreds of millions of paying users.
