Five game industry associations call for tax credit for game production costs
Five South Korean game and e-sports associations urged the government and parliament to add a tax credit for game production costs to the 2026 tax revision plan and to extend and expand an e-sports tournament operating cost credit set to expire at year-end. They said games account for about 60 percent of K-content exports but are excluded from existing production cost tax credits. They also called for raising the e-sports credit rate and expanding its geographic scope nationwide.

GCRB launches sixth panel, speeds shift of game ratings to private sector
The Game Culture Foundation has formed the sixth Games Content Rating Board (GCRB) panel and appointed Anyang University professor Seung-hoon Lee as chair. The new panel expands recommending bodies from eight to 16 and increases the share of experts in games, law and consumer protection, while lowering the average age to 44 from 54. GCRB plans a second-stage transfer of game ratings to the private sector in the second half, introducing mobile platforms and simplified reviews.

KOCCA to support AI transition in game production environments with up to 50 million won
The Korea Creative Content Agency will work with industry groups to support an artificial intelligence transition in South Korea\'s game industry by subsidising tool subscription fees. The Culture Ministry and KOCCA signed agreements with four associations to run the programme. Applications will be accepted from May 18 to 27. Support ranges by company size, topping out at 50 million won. Selected firms can receive 100 percent support for domestic tools and 90 percent for overseas tools.
