SK talents foundation launches KFAS young scholar award to support early-career researchers
SK Group\'s talent development arm has launched a new support programme for early-career researchers. The Korea Foundation for Advanced Studies said it selected three inaugural winners of the KFAS Young Scholar Award at an event in Seoul on June 22. The award targets researchers in the early stage after earning a doctorate, focusing this year on social sciences in social innovation. Each recipient will receive a total of 40 million won, including research funding.

Choi Tae-won says South Korea economy faces structural problems from rising social costs
SK Group Chairman Choi Tae-won said South Korea’s economy faces structural problems driven by weak domestic demand and rising social costs. He said growth models should be redesigned to achieve economic growth and reduce social costs at the same time, warning that neglecting social issues could increase welfare and conflict costs and constrain growth. He also called for systems to measure and reward social value and for discussion of new growth indicators beyond GDP.

SKT advances to phase 2 of national AI project, multimodal planned
SK Telecom\'s elite team has advanced to phase 2 of the government\'s domestic AI foundation model project and will apply multimodal functions to its A.X K1 model in stages, starting with image data, the company said on Thursday. The team scored 9.2 out of 10 in an NIA benchmark in phase 1, tying for first with LG AI Research. It plans to expand training data and increase supported languages to five.
