SpaceX secures 800 MHz spectrum, raising questions over U.S. three-carrier dominance
SpaceX, led by Elon Musk, is stepping up plans to enter the U.S. mobile market by securing large amounts of spectrum and deploying next-generation Starlink satellites. It agreed to buy 800 MHz low-band spectrum rights from private equity firm Grain Management for about $8 billion, and expanded a separate spectrum deal with EchoStar to about $20 billion. The FCC also approved deployment of 15,000 Starlink mobile satellites.
