Google unveils Gemini 3.5 voice AI that understands 85 languages, handles interruptions
Google has overhauled its voice recognition AI lineup, unveiling Gemini 3.5 Live for its Gemini Live conversational assistant, along with Gemini 3.5 Live Experimental for developers and Gemini 3.5 Transcribe for speech-to-text. Reports said Gemini 3.5 Live improves handling of user interruptions and adds real-time visual processing and mixed-language recognition. Google said Transcribe cuts processing time by about 70 percent and lowers real-time error rates to 5.5 percent, working across 85 languages.

Google adds voice prompts to Docs and Keep, enabling voice document creation and editing
Google is adding voice-based prompt features to its Workspace apps Google Docs, Keep and Gmail. The company unveiled the functions at its annual Google I/O developer conference on May 19. In Docs, users can create document drafts by voice and ask it to pull resume information from Drive, add event details from emails and include a humorous anecdote. Keep will transcribe spoken thoughts and have AI organize them into structured notes or lists. Gmail will allow voice conversations with Gemini to find information such as flight details, Airbnb reservation codes and doctor appointment times.

Work by voice spreads in AI era as AI dictation becomes a tech battleground
As AI changes how people work, speaking rather than typing is taking a bigger role, with tech startups increasingly using voice to interact with AI assistants. The Wall Street Journal reported engineers at Ramp use gaming headsets to speak to AI, while Gusto co-founder Edward Kim encourages staff to try dictation tools. Etiquette in shared offices is becoming more important. Competition is intensifying among AI dictation apps, and Google has added an AI dictation feature, Rambler, to Gboard.
