Microsoft Fabric aims to be data platform for AI agents, targeting Snowflake and Databricks
Microsoft unveiled three new products at its Build 2026 conference to strengthen data infrastructure for AI agents. Fabric CTO Amir Netz said enterprise AI needs a “context layer” to operate reliably. Microsoft introduced Azure HorizonDB, a fully managed PostgreSQL-compatible database in public preview. It will add Nvidia GPU acceleration support to Fabric Data Warehouse in an early access preview in July 2026. Microsoft also launched Fabric IQ to define business concepts and boundaries for AI agents.

Microsoft updates platform to support AI agent and application development, operations
Microsoft held Microsoft Build 2026 on Tuesday and said it updated its platform to support developing and operating AI agents and applications. CEO Satya Nadella said the focus is on helping users create and scale value on a platform, and that Microsoft is expanding the foundation for developers through an AI stack spanning edge to cloud. The company introduced Microsoft IQ, the Microsoft Scout work agent, the MAI model family, and new security and governance offerings.

Microsoft 365, loaded with agents, aims to overhaul business app experience
Microsoft on Wednesday put forward “frontier transformation” as a theme at its AI Tour Seoul event, pitching Copilot and agents as technologies to make it real. The company recently unveiled Microsoft 365 Copilot Wave 3, shifting AI from a chat partner to an agent embedded in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook that can execute tasks. It also introduced Copilot Cowork, an IQ intelligence layer for agentic AI, and Agent 365 for enterprise management.
