World Cup fuels prediction markets as $20 billion in bets pour in

The 2026 FIFA World Cup pushed prediction-market transaction volumes to $20 billion, including trading before, during and after the tournament, according to Chainalysis. About $5.7 billion was wagered during the five weeks of matches, representing around 63 percent of all prediction-market activity. More than 400,000 wallets took part, with activity seen on every continent except Antarctica. Illegal-actor links were below 1 percent, while $5.4 million came from sanctioned or other illicit sources.
