KOSPI holds 6,800 for second day on semiconductor rebound; Kosdaq falls 1.56 percent
South Korea\'s KOSPI closed higher for a second straight session above the 6,800 level, supported by rebounds in semiconductor heavyweights including Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix. The index fell to the 6,700 range during the session but recovered losses and turned up in afternoon trade. The Kosdaq ended down more than 1 percent. In the foreign exchange market, the won weakened slightly against the dollar.

Ericsson says 5G SA is core network for AI era, sets out foundation for 6G evolution
Ericsson presented 5G standalone (SA) and 5G Advanced as core foundations for AI-era networks and a pathway toward 6G. Ericsson Korea outlined network evolution, AI-RAN and integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) strategies at a media briefing in Seoul. It expects uplink traffic to rise 3 to 5 times by 2030, driven by physical AI such as AI glasses, robots and autonomous driving. Executives said differentiated connectivity, enabled by 5G SA, will be needed to guarantee service-specific performance.

US gasoline prices top $4 a gallon throughout August for first time as Sierra Club urges windfall tax
The Sierra Club urged the U.S. Congress to adopt a windfall tax to claw back excess profits major oil companies made after war-driven oil price surges. It said much of the profit reflected higher prices rather than expanded production, efficiency gains or innovation. The American Automobile Association said average U.S. gasoline prices exceeded $4 per gallon throughout August for the first time. The push comes ahead of a meeting between President Donald Trump and oil company CEOs.
