GM aims to cut vehicle development time to 2 years, unveils central computer and AI strategy

General Motors plans to use artificial intelligence to cut vehicle development time from 4 to 5 years to 2 years and overhaul batteries, vehicle electronics and autonomous driving technology. At a New York event, it unveiled an EV, AI and self-driving strategy aimed at responding to competition from Chinese automakers. GM plans to adopt a central computing software platform, introduce LMR batteries, and roll out a centralized vehicle computing unit starting in 2028.

EV charging demand shifts to highway rest stops as operators boost turnover with ultra-fast chargers

Competition in South Korea\'s EV charging business is expanding from charger output to utilisation rates and operational capability, as more charging demand concentrates at highway rest stops. Bright Energy Partners\' EV charging unit Water unveiled a charging station equipped with 400 kW ultra-fast chargers at Geumwang rest stop. CEO Yoo Dae-won said uptime and operations drive trust and repeat visits. He cited limits from 10-year contracts and regulated pricing, and said turnover and accurate station information are key to revenue.

Science ministry fleshes out seven SEED projects, draws up cross-ministry implementation strategy

South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT held a meeting on Oct. 22 with the presidential office and related ministries to draw up field-by-field implementation strategies for the seven SEED projects. The government project aims to foster seven areas as future growth engines, including small modular reactors, nuclear fusion, renewable energy, quantum, aerospace, advanced bio and advanced supply chains. The meeting discussed missions, performance goals and linking R&D and investment plans.
