GM aims to cut vehicle development time to 2 years, unveils central computer and AI strategy

General Motors plans to use artificial intelligence to cut vehicle development time from 4 to 5 years to 2 years and overhaul batteries, vehicle electronics and autonomous driving technology. At a New York event, it unveiled an EV, AI and self-driving strategy aimed at responding to competition from Chinese automakers. GM plans to adopt a central computing software platform, introduce LMR batteries, and roll out a centralized vehicle computing unit starting in 2028.

China EV production costs 35 percent lower than Europe\'s, battery supply chain and development speed drive gap

Production costs for Chinese-brand electric vehicles made in China are on average 35 percent lower than comparable European models, a report cited by InsideEV said. Consulting firm AlixPartners estimated costs at about $20,000 versus $31,000 in Europe. It said the gap reflects structural advantages beyond subsidies, including battery supply chains, energy costs and faster development known as “China speed”. The report warned tariffs alone are unlikely to erase China’s cost edge.

Tesla Q3 net profit slumps 43 percent, starts Optimus robot production in California

Tesla has started producing its humanoid robot Optimus at its Fremont, California, plant that previously made electric vehicles. The company said in its third-quarter shareholder letter that robots from the line are the first it has manufactured at production-quality levels. Tesla’s third-quarter revenue edged down to $28.04 billion and net profit fell 43 percent to $787 million. Electric-vehicle revenue was flat, while solar and energy storage fell and services revenue rose.
