Tesla unveils rare earth-free Cybercab motor; doubts remain over supply chain shift
Tesla said it has fitted Cybercab with a new electric vehicle motor that does not use rare earths. The motor is 18 percent smaller and 25 percent lighter than its existing high-performance drive unit, and is more efficient, according to Electrek. The company has not disclosed the magnet material used. While the change could matter for supply chains amid tighter Chinese export controls on rare-earth processing, broader adoption beyond Cybercab remains uncertain.

Tesla Cybercab has no hydraulic brakes. How does it stop?
Tesla has applied an electronic braking system with no brake fluid or brake lines to its production two-door electric Cybercab. The two-seat vehicle, which is known to have no steering wheel or pedals, also does not use a traditional hydraulic brake system. Instead, electronically controlled actuators at each caliper apply braking force to the rotor. Elon Musk said electric brakes reduce the complexity of hydraulic systems by eliminating vehicle-wide plumbing.

TrendForce estimated memory costs for the 256GB iPhone 18 Pro could rise about 400 percent year on year, pushing overall component costs higher. TrendForce also flagged possible increases for non-Pro models and projected a high starting price for a first foldable iPhone.
